Obituary of Mildred Mary Murtagh

Mildred “Millie” Murtagh of Massapequa went home at the age of 93 on June 23, 2023.  

Millie leaves behind her four children - James, Kevin, Gary and Connie (Tom Moehring); two grandchildren, Sarah Murtagh (Jimmy Dresch) and Thomas Moehring; and brother Erich and sister-in- law Pat.

Millie was predeceased by her husband James Murtagh, her beloved sisters Anne Russ and Lydia O’Kane, and daughter-in-law Laurie Mindel Murtagh.

An elementary school teacher for 28 years in the Seaford School District, Millie was also very activelyinvolved in the PTA. After retirement she joined the Association of American University Women(AAUW), where she performed numerous roles over many years. In addition, she volunteered to teach English as a Second Language, CCD, and helped people study to achieve their US citizenship. She also
enjoyed singing with the group Chordeliers.

She was a kind, loving and caring woman and those characteristics shined through so much that even inher declining state she was a favorite amongst the aide staff that came to take care of her daily, calling Millie a pleasure to come care for right to the end.
