Obituary of Amedeo Mantone, Jr.
Amedeo "Amo" Mantone Jr., 94, of North Massapequa, NY passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024 while reposing during a brief stay at The Hospice Inn.
Amedeo was born in Manhattan to Amedeo Mantone, Sr. and Immaculada "Margaret" Mantone on March 25, 1930. He went to high school at Haaren High School in Midtown Manhattan and graduated in 1948. He and his family soon thereafter moved to Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY. He joined the United States Navy in 1952,and served in active duty until 1954. The first year of his service coincided with the Korean War. After his marriage in 1969, and some time spent with his young family in Elmhurst Queens, he made the move to North Massapequa, Long Island, NY in 1973 not long after the births of his daughters Diane and Corinne. He made a career as a Postal Carrier and later, a supervisor for The United States Postal Service from 1959 until 1988. He later enjoyed his time working at GEICO before wrapping up his working years for good and entering retirement. He enjoyed staying active his entire life; activities he particularly enjoyed were world travel (visiting and traveling with family abroad), cruise ships, working on his cars, woodworking, home and yard projects and spending time with his wife and daughters (and later, four grandchildren). He cherished his time spent with the Sons of Italy organization, and was very proud of his Italian heritage and Brooklyn roots.
Amedeo is survived by his Wife of 55 years, Waltraut "Wanda" Mantone; Daughters Diane Maggio and Corinne Mantone-Geist; Sons-In-Law Felice "Phillip" Maggio and Sean Geist Sr.; Grandchildren: Courtney Geist, Sean Geist Jr., Brianna Maggio and Ava Maggio as well as an extensive family consisting of cherished nieces, nephews and cousins too extensive to list, but all beloved.
The youngest of ten children, Amedeo is preceded in death by nine beloved brothers and sisters.
Amo was truly "the last of a breed," as many have expressed. Thank you to all for your loving support at this difficult time.
