My memories of her are too many to write, growing up in the 60' and 70's in Massapequa was a wonderful time, Mrs. Keeshan AKA Mama Keesh was a big part of my childhood memories, she always made you feel special when you came to her home, always had a funny story to make you smile, and most of all she made you feel like her family...Terry Richie Michael James and Raymond were blessed to have such a BEAUTIFUL Mom, she is now with her boys in heaven, it was time for Gods angel here on earth to return, she will be very missed by her family and all who knew her, She left a lasting impression on everyone who was lucky enough to have met her, what a wonderful gift we were given to have her in our lives...

Dear Theresa
I had a feeling that something was "going on" to quote your mother in our last phone conversation. I believe was in April. It might have been March. She said she needed to see a doctor because "something is going on with me". Shortly after that conversation I had a very bad fall that required hospitalization....surgery...a long rehab. I first tried to call her a couple of months ago. It was unusual for her to not pick up the phone on the third ring. I became concerned. I had no luck trying to contact your brothers and I did not know your married name...just your first name. I was about to contact the Massapequa Police when your email arrived.
Theresa, we all know that our life on this Earth will end someday for ourselves and for the people we know and love . But knowing that does not make it any easier to accept it when "it" happens. That is the state I am in at the moment. It is very hard to accept that she is gone and we will never talk or see each other again.
I met Marie Azzone the day after Labor Day, September 1948. We were both 14 years old. It was the first day of school at John Adams High School. We were in the same Home Class. I was just coming off a very bad experience and for Marie being at John Adams was a dream come true--that first day and for the rest of her life. She sat next to me that day and we talked in a study class later that day. As you know, you are not supposed to talk in study class but you know your mother! That day I recognized Marie was a very special person. A girl the likes of which I had never before met. Marie was an ORGINAL. I suppose she saw something in me. A somewhat broken boy perhaps. We bonded that day. That bond was broken October 5th and I, like everyone else who knew this special person, have to face the rest of our lives without her.
Sincerely,
Tom McCann
PS: A foot away from me on my desk is a six inch crystal glass Christmas tree which Marie sent me when my book THE TREE NOBODY WANTED was published. I pick it up and think of her.

Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Marie?
A: Mama Keesh was Plainedge Pride! She helped so much with PTA, Bobcat fundraisers, Boy Scouts and so much more. She was an awesome Lunch Aide! All around a special woman. I would always see her in Stop and Shop with my mom, and walking around Plainedge. Always such a happy and sweet person. She made everyone laugh. I will miss her Christmas card every year, without fail, filling me in on all of her wonderful family. I so looked forward to hearing about all of the Keeshans. She took time out and would hand write me a special letter. Love you all , my sincere condolences Darlene Ciani

Its with such sadness to hear of the passing of Momma Keesh. What a beautiful person. She knew all of us kids growing up. She welcomed us into her home with love and a warm smile. Fondly remember the special way she made her meatballs. They were awesome. Rest in peace Momma Keesh, you were a true treasure in our lives.

Glen and I know Marie Keeshan as my dear friend Terry’s Mom. When arriving at Terry and Jeff’s many family events at their home, you always knew where Mrs. Keeshan was sitting. The table with the roars of laughter is where she could be found. She was very warm, welcoming, and happy to see you. Glen and I were always eager to hear her stories and life’s adventures. She was fun. It was not hard to see the attention she gave to all her family, and you just knew she was loved by all. Terry and her brothers were so blessed to have a mother like Marie. May the angels in heaven as well as her loved ones past be with her as they enjoy all that made her special.

Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Marie?
A: One of my favorite qualities of Marie was Her sense of humor . I met marie over 10 years ago through her daughter Theresa . She became a very good friend of mine she would often think of me and send cards and gifts and we have done this for over ten years . Just to see her name on a card in the mail always made me smile . I am grateful to have had such a wonderful friend who became more like family to me over these past years . I am so saddened to hear of her loss I send my deepest condolences to all family and friends who loved her just as much as I have . She was very much like a “grandmother from another” to me . I will always cherish the memories I have of her . I often come across little things that marie have sent me over the years and it warms my heart . My beloved friend Marie your life was a Blessing and your memory will forever be a treasure I will always love and miss you . Now get your Heavenly Rest until we meet again love always Veronica ( as you would always remind me … that Veronica was the lady in the Bible who wiped the face of Jesus on his way to Calvary this is the best memory I will forever treasure . Im going to miss you dearly .

We lost a part of our Bridal Reflections family. Josephine “Marie” Keeshan who most people simply & lovingly called ‘Mama Keesh’. When I heard the news so many things came back to me. She had sparkling blue eyes. Marie was a single mom of 5 kids and she did it all. She was loyal, strong, resilient, a woman of great faith, she was funny, smart, friendly, humble and kind. She never said a bad word about her ex husband to those kids. Marie was here when I started working part-time in middle school in the early 90’s and didn’t know I was “Tony’s daughter” for months …..she liked that she always said.. She taught me most of what I had to know. She also told me to hide the pizza box on Saturdays in the dumpster bc the grumpy manager Joan didn’t like us having any fun (I’ve changed that!)
She taught me the KISS method (keep. it .simple. stupid).
Marie taught me the phrase “ I take my coffee black, like my men…”
She taught me how to order the gowns on handwritten orders and fax them, how to follow up on the purchase orders and get everything in writing. She made me the best sandwiches on Fridays. She gave me the softest sweat pants for Christmas. She always treated me like one of her own. She told all of us bridal kids like it was and didn’t mince her words. She never misses an opportunity to tell me she loved me.
My dad’s office sidekick for decades.
I have so many more things I could say about the zany and loving Mama Keesh…. But that’s all I’ll share here. Rest in peace my friend and mentor. Love you… those that are remembered are never truly gone.

I had the absolute pleasure of knowing Marie through my daughter-in-law, Gina Marie. She was a beautiful soul who was so full of life and was just a nice person to talk to. As I expressed to her daughter, she was one hip chick. May she rest in peace and the joy she spread keep spreading with good thoughts of her.

Really wished Aunt Jo made a 100 to get letter from President. Though its a Miracle made 90 with that many kids along with marriage to Uncle Ritchie who was brother of Captain Kangaroo. Mostly remember swimming in the pool or her having Black Santa or living here after James saved from fire. I recall her story or rug collapsing as rescued from Blaze. Her Cooking and Laughing. There were lobsters in kitchen at times too. She managed to roll with the punches better than most. There will never be another one like Marie Keeshan.
