Obituary of Rosemarie Messina
Rosemarie Messina was born May 17,1934 in Brooklyn, New York to parents Nancy & Santino Santinelli, then moved to Richmond Hill. Rosemarie was one of three siblings, including Joseph & Arlene. Rosemarie married Michael Messina on June 20th, 1953 then moved to Franklin square where she had three children. She finally settled & raised her family in Massapequa, NY. Over the years Rosemarie’s family grew. She was blessed with her two sons, Michael & wife Lucy, and Thomas & his beloved wife Kathleen. Grandchildren Michael & wife Jessica, Alicia & husband John, Brittney & partner Alexis, beloved Thomas, Anthony & wife Karla. Great grandchildren Cole, Tyler, Hailey, Mason and Nicolina.
Rosemarie was raised during the Depression. She witnessed a lot of technology & learned to grow with it. Her iPad &Facebook became a key to staying young & in touch with both family & friends.
She loved going to Tobay Beach to socialize with both young & old. She was young at heart with many friends. She enjoyed getting crabs & cooking for everyone. Whether dropping food off or inviting them over for the holidays. She considered herself a “Gourmet Cook.”
Rosemarie loved to dance on the dance floor. Believe it or not, she was good. She’s probably dancing in Heaven right now.
They called her “Gambling Rose” because she was so lucky in whatever she played, Scratch-off’s, slot machines or any betting pools. She just had a knack for picking out numbers. Rosemarie was so lucky they would get mad at her because she always won.
She was a hard worker throughout her life. One of her favorite jobs was being a Banquet Manager because she loved people & cooking. This was right up her alley & she truly enjoyed it. Whenever anyone would talk about food, weddings, restaurants, or catering, she would say “I’m in the business”with a big smile on her face. Whenever anyone would have an alcoholic drink, she would say “You’re not a professional if you drink with a straw’.
Rosemarie was able to celebrate her 90th birthday on May 5th with family & friends. She had such a great time & was so surprised by the turn out. All her family was able to spend time with her & show her how much they loved her. Rosemarie passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
Rosemarie was the life of the party, fun to be with and will be truly missed & loved. Thank God we all have our own special memories with her that will keep her alive.
