Aunt Ro was like a second mother to me throughout my childhood. Her upbeat cheerful joy and social nature was contagious. She inspired me to be myself, be unique, lean on friendships and to live unapologetically out loud. I will forever treasure the holiday family dinners, her laughter and her kindness. I love you Ro

In Response To Maureen Messina's Tribute Post
Maureen, Your tribute strikes a note of intimacy and fondness that, frankly, stands in stark contrast to the reality of the past forty years—a reality where you completely distanced yourself from our mother. It’s perplexing and upsetting to see you portray a closeness that simply did not exist.
When our mother tried to reconnect during difficult times in your life, you explicitly rejected her attempts, even threatening legal action if she persisted. This was not just an absence but an active refusal to engage with her, which only added to her pain.
It is disheartening that you chose to publicly reminisce as if you had been a part of her life, especially when you hadn’t visited or reached out to her in decades, not even during her last days in a hospital bed. Your tribute omits these painful truths, and it feels misleading and disrespectful to her memory.
Your post should reflect an honest account, not an idealized narrative that ignores the deep hurt caused by years of estrangement. I hope you can someday feel the weight of the absence you maintained and the impact it had on her.
As we mourn, let’s strive to honor her with integrity and truth, acknowledging not just the good times but also the real and profound struggles she faced. This includes the heartbreak of having a daughter who chose to stay away, not just physically but emotionally.
Your portrayal of our familial bond needs to reflect the entire story, not just selected memories.
~You should be ashamed.
