April 13, 1933 – August 30, 2023
Vito was born on April 13, 1933 in Fontechiari, Italy. He moved to the United States when he was 14 years old. Since then, he’s lived in Italy and the US until he settled here in 1969 where he bought a housein Masssapequa. He brought his family over in January of 1970, and has lived there ever since with his wife of 66 years, Adele, who passed away in 2021, and raised their 3 sons, Mario, Sergio, and Antonio. He worked in the construction industry doing concrete work until he retired. He was one of six children; he had 1 brother and 4 sisters.
Vito was a quiet man, many describe him as kind and sweet. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather to 7 grandchildren, Cristina, Diana, Michael, Christopher, Angelina, Sarafina, and Marco.
Vito enjoyed playing Italian card games with his friends and taught his grandchildren, Angelina, Sarafina, and Marco how to play SCOPA, which they recently played with him in April on his 90th birthday.He made homemade wine as well as his own jarred tomato sauce. He was employed as a construction worker doing concrete work. He enjoyed home improvements that involved building and carpentry work and liked to help his sons with home improvements on their houses.
Vito enjoyed going on pilgrimages with his family and friends in Canada, Spain, France, and Portugal. He visited St. Anthony’s Feast and The Shrine of Our Lady of the Island. Vito and his late wife, Adele, celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2005 at a ceremony in Maria Regina Church.
