Obituary of Alice A. Horan
In Loving Memory of Alice Alberta Horan
Massapequa, NY - Alice Alberta Horan, a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Mother-in-law, and Friend peacefully passed away on August 24, 2023, at the age of 84. Born on May 19,1939 aboard the U.S.S. Manhattan during her family's immigration from County Cork, Ireland to Ellis Island N.Y. Alice's life was a testament to the values of family, love, and adventure.
Alice's boundless spirit and warm heart endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She deeply enjoyed spending time with her dear friends and cherished family. She created an atmosphere of laughter and love in her warm and welcoming home.
One of Alice's greatest passions was her love for travel, particularly her journeys to her beloved Ireland to spend time with family there. The rolling hills and lush landscapes of her homeland held a special place in her heart, providing solace and connection in every expedition she undertook. In addition to her many trips to Ireland she travelled to Hawaii and California on numerous occasions. She also mentioned how she enjoyed the Alaskan cruise she went on with her niece Cathy.
Alice possessed an artistic soul, finding joy and relaxation in the intricate art of needlepoint. She also found pleasure in word search games, a pursuit that showcased her sharp intellect and unwavering determination.
Alice's strength and resilience were evident as she navigated life's challenges with grace especially after suffering a stroke in 1971 that left her paralyzed and having three young children to raise. Again Alice was challenged in 1987 with the untimely death of her husband Thomas W. Horan. Alice's legacy lives on through her three children: Thomas J. Horan, William J. Horan, and Alison M. Garfield. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering love helped shape them into the remarkable individuals they are today. Her four grandchildren: Elizabeth, Tommy, Johnathan and Aaron, brought an extra sparkle to her eye, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Alice Alberta Horan's life was a tapestry woven with threads of love, adventure, and connection. She will be remembered for her kind heart, her zest for life, and her enduring love for her family. As we mourn her passing, let us also celebrate the incredible woman she was and the legacy of love and joy she leaves behind.
Alice is preceded in death by her beloved husband Thomas W. Horan, her parents John and Johanna Brennan, her brothers James and Michael Brennan, and her granddaughter Elizabeth M. Horan.
