Obituary of Carmel T. Gavin
Please share a memory of Carmel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carmel T. Gavin, born on August 21, 1935, beloved widow to Martin W. Gavin, passed away on November 20, 2022. Carmel is survived by her three loving children Therese, Laura and William, their spouses Anthony, Arthur and Gloria,
and five loving grandchildren, Joseph, Destiny, Skylar,
Matthew and Brayden. Carmel graduated from the Foundling Hospital Pediatric Nurses program in 1955
with a Pediatric Nursing degree. She worked at the Foundling hospital until 1968 caring for orphan babies. Once she had her own children, she decided to be a stay-
at-home mom. Carmel and Marty raised their three children in Queens, NY. Once the children were in grammar school, Carmel volunteered her time helping at their school, Our Lady of Fatima. She continued to work there for many years even
after her children had graduated.
In 2009, six years after Marty passed away, Carmel moved to Farmingdale, Long
Island to be closer to her children and their families. She enjoyed spending time with them and adored her grandchildren. In September 2022 she was diagnosed
with stage 4 ovarian cancer. She died peacefully at the age of 87.
