Obituary of Constance DeCanio

Please share a memory of Constance to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Constance Davie DeCanio passed away on Wednesday, October 20th surrounded by her family and lots of love. Connie was born in Brooklyn, NY to Matthew and Mary Davie on December 4th 1937. She was the fifth of 11 children. She is survived by her husband Gabriel whom she married on September 13,1958. She was “Mom” to her 6 children and their spouses, “Gmizzle” to her 12 grandchildren and “GG” to her 2 great grandkids. Connie was an avid sports fan. “Mets and Jets”. She enjoyed watching games and yelling at her beloved Teams. Unfortunately they didn’t listen to her. Diagnosed with Cardiac Amyloidosis in 2008, she entered into an experimental drug trial where she was introduced to an amazing Team at Columbia University Medical Center. Her participation was instrumental in the approval of a medication now used to treat Amyloidosis patients worldwide. This disease did not define her. She lived her life with grace and strength. With family always at the core. As per Connie’s wishes our family kindly suggests donations to be made in her honor to Amy’s Greenhouse which is a living memorial to our cousin Amy O'Doherty who perished at the age of 23 on September 11th, 2001 at the World Trade Center. https://www.gofundme.com/f/connie-decanio-memorial
