Obituary of William Francis Haffey

William Francis Haffey completed his life's journey on Monday April 5th 2021 in his 99th year. Loving husband of the late Dorothy E. Haffey. Beloved brother of the late Dorothy Ferris and Frank Haffey. Loving father of Lynne Marie Haffey-Merrins. Cherished grandfather of William (Susan) Ahrens, Robert Ahrens, and William (Yvonne) Merrins. Adored great-grandfather of Samantha Ahrens, Griffin Ahrens, Nicholas Ahrens, Caitlin Merrins, and Brenna Merrins. William served in the United States Army as a Staff Seargent in the Signal Corp and was a proud World War II veteran. After his military service, he went on to serve in the FDNY for twenty years with Engine 328 and Ladder 134 in New York City. Upon retiring from the FDNY , he began his second career as an appraiser. He worked for the federal government's Department of Housing and Urban Development which he retired from in the 1980's. He continued working as an independent appraiser for the next two decades which involved consulting as an expert witness in legal cases. As a concerned and civic minded citizen, he would often take time to write letters to the editors of newspapers expressing his concerns and opinions on current issues leading to several publications. He was always an avid golfer and later in life became an enthusiastic world traveler. He loved meeting new people from around the country and the world, learning about them and sharing with them. Known by many for his love of life and people, most of all he loved his family. He was a strong man who loved his family and could always be relied on in any situation that might arise. He is loved and will be deeply missed.
