Please share a memory of Beatrice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Beatrice Ann Cameron June 15, 1931-March 8, 2021 Beatrice Ann Cameron passed away softly on March 8, 2021. She was 89 years old. Beatrice was born to Thomas and Sarah Conlon in Bayside, Queens, where she was baptized in a movie theater and had her first kiss in a victory garden. She was the youngest girl in her family of six, where she was lovingly nicknamed “Letterbox” because of her persistent open mouth, how she always had something to say, and always wanted to ensure that she was heard. She was later a resident of Levittown, Massapequa, and Amityville, NY and was an active member of Maria Regina church. She loved her job as a secretary for the Town of Oyster Bay, where she worked for over twenty years, and later enjoyed what she would call “the best retirement anyone could wish for.” Beatrice was an avid reader, a lifelong learner, a talented seamstress, baker, and cook. She knitted an Irish sweater for every new baby that came into her life, gifting dozens to family, friends, colleagues, teachers, and neighbors. She played a weekly card game for twenty-five years and made a whole new set of friends when she was 83, whom she met playing canasta at her local library. An expert archivist and family historian, she collected shelves of photo albums and was the first person anyone knew to own a movie camera. Her interest in genealogy led her to map out her family tree on a large paper roll, a resource that was then digitized and shared across generations. She was a gifted storyteller and was happiest when she was surrounded with her family, who adored her and will remember her as a beautiful, clever, generous, whip-smart, and relentlessly funny person. She defined love as time and attention. Beatrice leaves behind her two children, Helen and David, and three grandchildren, Thomas, Matthew and Molly, who will all deeply miss laughing with her. Even in her last days, she continued to be the best of company, the life of the party. She was a pleasure to love. We will all miss her very much.
