Manuel Antonio Taveras of Juncalito, Dominican Republic, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday November 5, 2020.
Manuel is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Praxides Taveras, daughters Luisa (Conrad) Taveras-Lissade, Josefina Taveras, Judy Taveras, and son Luis Taveras.
Grandchildren Aaron Taveras, Calvin Windley, and Matthew Windley. Two loving great grandchildren and extended family. Manuel was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to everyone.
Manuel loved to play dominos and was known to be the “best” there was. He also loved baseball The Red Socks were one of his favorite teams and would watch them play on tv in his free time. He was a pitcher for his team in Dominican Republic when he was younger.
A memory from your loving daughter Luisa:
A beautiful memory of dad that I have was when he would take me on one of his adventures to the race track. I remember how happy he was to be there and would tell me how he loved being around the horses. He would ask me to pick a color of the silks the jockey would wear and everytime they would win, it was so magical! I’ll always cherish those moments with you dad, and thank you for being the best father a girl can have. I’ll love you always!
A memory from your loving son Luis:
I was watching tv upstairs after getting home from work, when daddy had called out to me and I responded negatively. He then came running up the stairs with a belt in his hands asking “asi es que tu responde a tu papá?” (Is this how you answer to your father?) And to make matters worse I was a 45 year old adult! I loved you for the great teacher that you were. Gracias papá.
A memory from your loving daughter Josefina:
One of my best memories of daddy was when he was teaching me how to drive. He took me to a church parking lot, parked the car and explained to me how to turn on the car, where the brake and gas pedals were and how to turn a vehicle around. Then he said turn on the car and back it up. Well I did as I was told and at first it was going fine and he said “good now gently place your foot on the brakes and stop the car”. Well I somehow hit the gas pedal and the car quickly continued to go in revers as he yelled “hit the brakes! hit the brakes!” I justly narrowly missed hitting the lamp post…lol! I looked at daddy and he was white as a ghost and said…”you’re getting driving lessons from an instructor “.
For a while even after I got my license daddy was very cautious when he got in the car with me...lol. Of course over the years his fear subsided and in the last few years, since he could no longer drive he became my copilot. He always wanted to go with me every where I went. So much so that when I was home resting he would ask me “don’t you have any errands to do today?”…lol! For a man of his age he had non-stop energy. Even though he could no longer drive he would walk every day to church for adoration and if he wasn’t walking to church he would walk around the neighborhood. Well now he has all of heaven to walk or fly around…RIP Daddy… I love you!
A memory from your loving daughter Judy:
When I had my bad days, I would absolutely love the fact that i could go to him & simply talk. He was always willing to listen, correct, and even say something funny to make me smile. He was ALWAYS calm, what I treasure most that he was NEVER Judgmental, not even a insult will come out of his mouth. He had a great personality and especially an awesome sense of humor!!
He was also the type to not make things a big deal, and NOT hold grudges. Dad had his own special, natural way of letting things go and NOT let anybody get to him. I love you with all my heart dad!
