Grammy was probably one of the most active grandmother's I ever knew. We asked for sleepovers at Grammy and Pop Pops. There was always fun to be had and something to discover. Grammy always had something planned.
I am the youngest grandchild but can boast 35 years of wonderful memories with my grandmother. Some of my earliest memories tool place at the LI Yacht club. There we would spend time on Grammy and Pop-Pop's boat. We would go swimming and play tennis. We even had a sleepover on the boat. We even celebrated occasional holidays there.
Visits to Grammy's always meant fun. There would be a trip to the library to pick out any movie we wanted. Trips to the beach or nearby park. I still have a fear of geese and swans after one such trip. Apple slices always tasted much better at Grammy's and her homemade soups were like no other - only Grammy could get a young child eating lentil soup. When you were there, Grammy made you feel like the time was about you. She and Pop-Pop came to every school concert and grandparents day. A trip to Pizza Hut or Friendly's usually followed.
We use to take a family trip Poconos. I can still see Grammy cruising along on her roller skates. It's a favorite memory. The granddaughters were fortunate to take a European vacation with Grammy and Pop-Pop where Grammy regularly reminded us not to fill up on Coca-Cola.
Grammy loved her grandchildren (we all use to tease each other claiming to be the favorite) and was thrilled with the addition of each great-grandchild. She was loved and will be missed.
