One of the sweetest ladies I've known. Lifelong memories that we will hold on forever. I can still hear your laugh and every time I walk past your house, I stop. So many memories fill my hear of you, your family of all of us growing up in Massapequa and in our Greek community. I'll always remember you and Mr. Vendikos as cherished and good friends of my parents. Love and kisses, Sandi, Argye and the whole Demopoulos family.

So many childhood memories....like the car rides to school in the big white Cadillac. There were always blankets available in the backseat to keep us warm on those cold or rainy days. May you Rest In Peace Athena knowing how many lives you touched.

I knew Mrs. Vendikos thru her daughter Dr. Christine Vice. I met her when she came in as a patient only to find out that she lived a few blocks from where my husband and I lived. She had the nicest disposition and smile. I would meet her and her husband in the nearby grocery store often and you could see how much they loved each other. She will be missed as a mother, grandmother, friend and patient. Rest in peace Athena.

Though I never met her, I feel like she could have been my own grandmother from the outpouring of constant love her family had for her. May her memory be eternal!

Memories of growing up,reminds me of how my Mom was also a friend. She was understanding and easy to talk to, so much so, that my friends would come over to talk to her as well. I have fond memories of the many cruises we shared, where we had lots of fun and laughs. As the years went on , we spent alot of time together, going to lunch and to Greek church festivals.I am so grateful for the time we had and for my Mom being the Mom that she was.

I grew up listening to my Mom telling stories of growing up in Brooklyn. My favorite one was how she met my Dad. Some friends told her that there were some cute Greek boys selling hotdogs in Coney Island. She and her friend went to check things out. She took one look at my Dad, poked her friend in the ribs with her elbow and said “He doesn’t know it yet, but he’s going to marry me one day”. She was only 16 and not permitted to date yet. But every day after my dad’s workday ended, they went on the rides together. And…the rest is history

She brought a big smile to everyone around her. Perhaps what brought the biggest smile to her face was memories of her Greek dancing and watching her family carry on the tradition. She learned to Greek dance at her all girls high school, Girls Commercial, in Brooklyn. A Greek teacher made an announcement over the loudspeaker for all of the Greek immigrants to join her after school dance instruction. My greek dance team, the Hellenic Dancers of Blue Point, were scheduled to perform for her at her nursing home, but the performance was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic. She was looking so forward to it. In lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations to our dance group so that we can carry on the tradition of Greek dance for each of our families.
