Obituary of George T. Billy
*Obituary for George Billy**
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of George Billy, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left us on October 28, 2024. Born on June 26, 1937, in the Bronx, New York, George lived a life filled with love, dedication, and adventure.
George was the cherished husband of Raphael Billy, whom he married in 1961. Their love story began 18 months after they met at Peppy McGuire's, a local bar in Queens, and it flourished over a remarkable 60 years of marriage. Together, they raised two daughters, nurturing a family rooted in love and support.
At the age of 19, George enlisted in the United States Navy, serving as a Radio Operator. His time in the military instilled in him a strong sense of duty and discipline that would carry throughout his life. After his service, he sought opportunities in San Francisco but faced challenges in finding work that matched his aspirations. Undeterred, he returned to his Bronx roots, where he would soon meet the love of his life.
With a thirst for knowledge and a passion for learning, George enrolled at Queens College, earning a bachelor's degree in English. His academic achievements paved the way for a successful career as a Technical Writer with Lockheed Martin and Sperry. In this role, George's expertise was instrumental in creating manuals for large transportation companies, contributing significantly to the modernization of the Long Island Rail Road.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, George had a zest for life that was infectious. An avid fisherman, he spent countless hours casting lines in the Long Island Sound, enjoying the thrill of catching fluke, flounder, stripers, and porgy. He also had a deep appreciation for seafood, with lobster being his favorite. His love for the outdoors extended to skiing in the winter months, where he found joy in the slopes and the beauty of nature.
George was a devoted family man, finding immense joy in the company of his eight grandchildren. He took great pride in their accomplishments, always encouraging them to pursue their dreams and passions. His legacy of love and support will forever be etched in their hearts.
As we remember George, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his work, and his passion for the great outdoors. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and devotion that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
