Obituary of James A. McCormack
James Anthony McCormack, affectionately known as Jimmy, was born on June 13, 1960, in
Bayside, Queens, NY, and peacefully passed away on May 30, 2024, after a courageous battle
with ALS. He recently resided in Huntington, NY.
Jimmy was a true embodiment of the phrase "New York's Finest." His dedication to protection
and service began as a detective with the NYPD's warrant squad until his retirement in 2003.
His commitment to protecting others was further exemplified during the tragic events of 9/11,
when he bravely served as a first responder with the K-9 unit at Ground Zero. Later, he
extended his protective reach through roles in private security for the New York Stock Exchange
and with the Westbury School District.
Jimmy was preceded in death by beloved wife, Theresa McCormack, and parents Thomas and
Kathleen McCormack. He leaves behind his son James, and daughter Caitlyn with husband
Sean, who will forever cherish the memories they shared with their father.
In addition to his immediate family, Jimmy is survived by his siblings, their spouses, and his
nieces and nephews. Their familial bond was unbreakable, providing unwavering support and
love through all of life's ups and downs.
A lover of animals, Jimmy's kind soul extended to his cherished pets. He adored his husky
companions, Jack and Koga, enjoying countless walks in nature and camping trips together. His
grand-pug, Dingle, held a special place in his heart, always receiving a treat or two from
Jimmy's pocket.
Jimmy will be remembered for his generous spirit, resilience, loving heart, and unique sense of
humor. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched and the memories he created.
May he rest in God's eternal peace.
