Obituary of Thomas P. Burke

Burke, Thomas P. (Tom), 88, a long time resident of Seaford, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 16th, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving daughters and granddaughter. 

Tom was born on October 4, 1935, in Brooklyn, NY, to Edward (Eddo) Burke and Mary (Irene) Moore. Tom was one of 10 siblings, all of whom predeceased him except his sister, Agnes, who is 101.

Tom would tell you that the best decision he ever made was marrying “the girl next door” Maureen Gormaley.  Tom and Maureen (Mary) were married on October 29, 1960, and together they had three children, Kevin, Diane, and Linda.  

After 2 years in the Army, Tom began a 30-year career with the LIRR.  In retirement Tom loved to spend time gardening and painting.  Although he would deny it, he was a very talented artist.

Tom was predeceased by his beloved wife, Maureen.  He is survived by his three children, Kevin (Margaret) Burke, Diane Burke, and Linda (John) Weiburg, and his three grandchildren, Kristin (Matt) LaFontaine, Erin Burke and Kristi Weiburg.  Tom is also survived by his two great grandchildren, Will and Gavin LaFontaine.
