Obituary of Lynette Mary Martin

Please share a memory of Lynette to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lynette Mary Martin was born August 11, 1953 in Birmingham, England and went home to be with the Lord on February 29, 2024 at her home in Floral Park, New York.

Lynette was 12 years old when she immigrated to the United States with her Mother Patricia, Father Jerome, sister Maureen and brother Stephen. She loved to share her experience of traveling across the Atlantic on a huge ocean steamer and arriving in the greatest country in the world. Lynette was an incredible storyteller, skilled at deeply connecting her audience to her stories.

Lynette and Jimmy met in 1980 and fell in love. They complimented each other perfectly and soon after started a family. Sean was born in 1983 followed by Tara in 1985. Their dog, Winston, joined the family a few years later. He was often at Lynette's feet as they rested together in the living room. As a family, they enjoyed trips to Lake George, Planting Fields Arboretum, Bushkill Falls, historic sites and adventures throughout New York City.

Lynette had a tenured career as a unit receptionisto at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. She was the anchor of the unit and worked diligently, year-after-year, to build an accomplished 32-year career.

As often as possible, Lynette was outdoors enjoying nature, God's creation. She loved tending to her garden and house plants, arranging flowers and feeding the birds. She will be remembered raising her face towards the sun, whether through a window or sitting outside to be drenched in the glorious, warming light. Lynette enjoyed long drives with Jimmy across Long Island, going to the beach, watching the sunset, listening to live music, particularly at the Tilles Center, and attending Broadway shows in NYC. Jimmy and Lynette traveled frequently to Killington, Vermont and to Montauk Manor on Long Island. Trips to California and Florida to visit their daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren were always fun and exciting.

Lynette will be with us in every sunrise and sunset, every first bloom, every beautiful rose bud, every butterfly, hummingbird and cardinal. She will surround us with her peace and love everywhere we go. She will leave traces of her joy for us to follow.

Lynette's memory lives through her devoted husband James, her two children Sean and Tara, her son-in-law Ali, her daughter-in-law Diana, and 5 gorgeous grandchildren Deacon, Olivia, Cassidy, Sofia and Amelia -- the absolute pride and joy of her life.
