Anita Sargent

Obituary of Anita Sargent

Please share a memory of Anita to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Anita was born in Greenpoint New York 4/26/1930.

She was born to Carlos and Josephine Calabrese. Her father had come to America from Italy when he was a young teenager. They later owned a shoe store in Brooklyn, and lived in the apartment above it.

Anita worked in Gimbels as a teenager after school and would occasionally work in the shoe store with her father.

She would later try out for the Rockettes which would combine her love of singing and dance, but would refuse the part as the costumes were too daring!

Later in life she worked in Fortunoffs as a manager and personal shopper.

She worked there for over 20 years, and met many of her lifetime friends there.

But of all the jobs and /or careers she had, family was her number one priority.

That is what truly gave her life and what she will be remembered for the most.

She is survived by her daughter Marianne, son in law Al, and grandchildren , Joseph and wife Jenna, Alexandria and her partner Noel, and her sister Marie.

She was a beloved Nonna to her great grandchildren Sophie and Felix.

She is predeceased by her brother Alphonse, and sisters Maria, Fran and Jean.

As advocate of children everywhere we are asking in lieu of flowers that donations be sent to Saint Judes Childrens Hospital, and St Joseph's Indian School
