Anne Marie Mulligan Obituary

Anne Marie Mulligan was born on August 4, 1964. From day one, her parents, Alice and Bill, were her rocks - whatever Anne Marie needed, they made it happen. When doctors said she might never walk, her dad built her parallel bars, and she was using them at age 2 and walking independently with crutches at age 3.

Growing up on Toronto Avenue, she was the heart of the block, holding court at her “box table” which served as the neighborhood’s “Town Hall.” She shared a beautiful bond with Mr. and Mrs. Dick, who were a second mom and dad to her as our two families grew up together. Love to you all!

In 1968, at the age of 4, Anne Marie began her 16-year journey at Human Resources (now the Henry Viscardi School). During her time there, she was chosen as the Easterseals Princess for the United States, representing the organization at national events.

Anne Marie took great pride in her independence, living in her own home in Massapequa for over 25 years. She loved spoiling her nieces and nephews with personalized holiday gifts. While many with spina bifida do not reach 61, Anne Marie did through her incredible will and the “Fighting Mulligan” spirit.  She always found a way. God Bless her that she can finally walk on her own into heaven, reunited once again with Mom and Dad.

On a personal note, special gratitude to Anne Marie’s guardian, Katharine Richards and her team, for supporting her independence for 18 years. In addition, to Bryan, her medical lifeline; Brendan, her constant listener; Noreen, who was with her as a little one and stayed by her side 24/7 in her final moments; and to Billy and Kathy, who always lent a hand. Also to Lora for her unwavering support of Anne Marie.

We appreciate all the family and friends who helped Anne Marie along her journey over the last 61 years. On behalf of my family, Thank you.

Love, Shawn & All the Mulligans
