Obituary of John "Jack" Hipp
John W. “Jack” Hipp, age 86, of Massapequa Park, New York, passed away peacefully in hospice on July 31, 2025, following a brief illness.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Janet (née Bischoff), and their nine children: Jack (Eva), Michael, Janine (Vincenzo), Gregory (Rachel), Jennifer (Michael), Lisa, Daniel (Caroline), Caren, and Matthew. He also leaves behind his cherished canine companion, Buddy, as well as a large and loving family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Born in Brooklyn on January 11, 1939, to John and Mary Hipp, Jack grew up in a tight-knit Roman Catholic household alongside his three sisters. He attended Catholic schools, including Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, and served faithfully as an altar boy in his youth.
In 1956, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served as a Cryptologic Technician and awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for his service during the Lebanon Crisis. Following his honorable discharge, Jack married the love of his life, Janet, in 1961. He then embarked on a distinguished career with the New York City Police Department, rising to the rank of detective and serving in specialized units including Robbery, SVU, and the Joint Task Force on Organized Crime.
After retiring from the NYPD, Jack continued his service to others through work in the insurance industry and various civil service roles. His greatest joys were rooted in his ever-growing family, deep faith, and dedication to his community.
A proud patriot and cornerstone of the Massapequa community, Jack was an active member of several veterans and fraternal organizations, where he held leadership positions and contributed his time generously to charitable causes.
