A Life Well-Lived
It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Michael S. Savage on June 9, 2025 at the young age of 68 years. Born on February 18, 1957 to Michael and Theresa Savage, both of whom also passed away young. Mike was only 10 when his father passed and 13 years of age when he lost his mother. The eldest of 6 children, Michael persevered through a traumatic childhood and succeeded in achieving a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from NYU and had an esteemed career in insurance.
Michael was a faithful, active Christian throughout his life, allowing God to be his guide through life’s journey and challenges. Divine intervention brought him to his soulmate and wife, Joanne, at an encounter while on vacation in Martinique in 1985. They wed in 1987 and although never parents of their own, Mike was indeed like a father to many. People young and old looked to him for advice, guidance, and wisdom. When there were no answers, he would encourage them to pray. Mike remained faithful and hopeful through his 10+ year challenging journey with prostate cancer. He showed grace, resilience, and gratitude for the care and blessings he was given at Memorial Sloan Kettering hospital. God graced Mike with no pain, little suffering and a positive, upbeat nature. Prayers were answered, and he encountered a much deserved painless, peaceful, passing surrounded by family, friends, and loved ones. To say that he will be deeply missed is an understatement.
In his free time, Mike enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, travel, ballroom dancing with his wife, fishing with his brother, and watching the Mets. He was very active in his parish community of Maria Regina, including vacation Bible school, Youth group, religious education, and Baptism. Mike had the ability to put others at ease with his light-hearted sense of humor and willingness to tap into his inner child. For example, he dressed up as a bunch of grapes and did a fruits of the Holy Spirit rap for the youth groups.
Mike was predeceased by his parents Michael and Theresa Savage, his sister Monica Savage-Kanter (Danny), and niece Ashley Savage. Mike is survived by his wife and soulmate, Joanne (Lepre) Savage; his siblings, brother Tom (Hilda), and nieces, Stephanie and Jessica, nephew Theo and grand nieces; sisters Beth Savage, Janet Savage, and a brother, Mario Costa (Margaret) and nieces Alyssa and Emily, who he was blessed to be united with 6 years ago, with the help of ancestry.com. Also survived by his inlaws: Mother-in-law Gina Lepre, sister in-law Camille Lepre (Bill Sullivan), sister in-law Phyllis LepreReischmann (Ken), nephew Shawn (Kerri) grand nephews/niece and nephew Kenny (Jaclyn).
