Obituary of Edwin Fermaint

Please share a memory of Edwin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Edwin Fermaint. Eddie is a beloved husband, father, grand-father, great grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend who passed away peacefully on palm Sunday, April 13th 2025 at the age of 79.

Eddie was born on  May 26th 1945 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. His parents moved to Brooklyn, New York when Eddie was 2 years old. He is 1 out 9 children and was raised surrounded by his brothers and sisters. They are a close knit family and they mean the world to him. Eddie is a loving father to four children. Lisa and Eddie Jr. where born during his first marriage to Rosa Castro. In 1979 he met Joanne Yohannan while they worked together at the ASPCA. They both shared a deep love and passion of animals and have been together ever since. They were married on June 4th, 1988 and together raised two beautiful daughters: Victora and Jessica. Eddie was so proud of all four his children and talked about them often. Eddie drove an animal ambulance for the ASPCA over three decades and put his heart and soul Into his work. He always worked long hours and very hard throughout his life, supporting his family was always his priority.

Eddie found joy and happiness in the simple pleasures of life. He loved going to the beach and taking trips to Puerto Rico and Florida. Spending time with his brothers and sisters was very special to him and he had a true appreciation for music. He loved to dance and did it with such passion.

Eddie loved baseball and basketball, he enjoyed playing both and loved to watch all of his favorite team on TV. He also enjoyed his westerns and a good game show. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was the author of many nick-names for his many friends and family members.

Eddie battled a multitude of health challenges throughout the last decade. He faced them with faith and conviction and was a true warrior throughout all of it. His God given strength was quiet and unyielding, rooted in the deep love he had for his wife and entire family. He showed us all the true meaning of faith and courage. We thank God and his son Jesus Christ for walking with us every step of the way.

We take comfort in knowing that Eddie is now at peace in the Kingdom of God, in the arms of our Lord. Eddie will truly be missed by all and never forgotten. His memory will live on in all of our hearts forever.

Eddie leaves  behind his loving wife and soul mate Joanne. His four children, many grand and great grand children, his loving brother and sister-laws, and countless friends. Eddie is survived by his older brother Big John,  his sister Big Gladys, his younger sister Elizabeth, his brother Harry and his sister “little” Gladys,

Eddie is pre-deceased by his parents and  younger brother “Little Johnny”, his brother Gregory, and his brother Louie.
